Microsoft invests 1 billion USD in building AI data centers in Portugal
AFP, Lisbon, 11th - Technology giant Microsoft announced today that it plans to start investing 1 billion USD in Portugal next year to build large-scale data centers for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
This plan will be carried out in cooperation with the UK-based company Nscale, which specializes in AI data centers, and Start Campus, which has already begun constructing a large data center near the southern port city of Sines. Microsoft will install 12,600 of NVIDIA's latest generation chips in this data center.
In a statement, Microsoft said this plan is "one of the largest investments in artificial intelligence computing power in Europe."
Brad Smith, Microsoft's president, told the Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Negocios that Portugal has become a key location for data center construction and investment in Europe.
Smith is attending the Web Summit in Lisbon.
