Recently, the Toronto-based startup Cent ML was successfully acquired by NVIDIA for 400 million dollars. This AI startup was co-founded by Wang Shang (Shang(Sam) Wang), a post-95 Chinese doctoral student from the University of Toronto, and his mentor and others. Currently, Wang Shang and the other three co-founders as well as 15 engineers have all been fully recruited by NVIDIA.

According to Wang Shang's self-introduction, I was born and raised in Qingdao, a beautiful city in Shandong Province, China.
I studied at Qingdao No. 2 High School, where I had the opportunity to grow up with the most outstanding peers.
I received my Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) from the University of Toronto in June 2018.
I was one of the two recipients of the Adel S. Sedra Award that year.
During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to work on a summer research project with Professor Jonathan Rose, and I interned twice at Google and twice at Intel Programmable Solutions Group (formerly Altera).
I obtained my Master of Science (MSc) degree in Computer Science (DCS) from the University of Toronto in January 2020.

I had the privilege of being supervised by Professor Gennady Pekhimenko. As a graduate researcher, I was also affiliated with the Vector Institute. My master's thesis was a candidate for the CAIAC Artificial Intelligence Master's Thesis Award nominated by the University of Toronto.
From March 2020 to June 2022, I worked as a Deep Learning Software Engineer at NVIDIA.
Since September 2021, I have been pursuing my Ph.D. in the Department of Computer Science (DCS) at the University of Toronto.
I had the privilege of again being supervised by Professor Gennady Pekhimenko and was affiliated with the Vector Institute as a graduate researcher. I am one of the recipients of the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) for the 2022-2023 academic year and the Canada Graduate Scholarship - Doctoral (CGS-D) for the 2023-2026 academic years. I am also one of the finalists for the 2023 Meta Research Doctoral Fellowship.
Since July 2022, I have had the privilege of leading the research and engineering work at CentML.
I am one of the co-founders of the company and serve as Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

According to the introduction, the software developed by CentML can run between AI models and chips, thus utilizing underutilized hardware capacity and employing other techniques to make the system perform better.
It is understood that this acquisition has been planned for a long time. NVIDIA first entered CentML in October 2023, when it provided a $27 million seed round investment for CentML.
