【Indonesian Navy Tests Chinese-Made HC-545 VTOL Drone】
According to a report published on August 27, 2026, by Jane's Defence Weekly (Janes), the Indonesian Navy has conducted trials of the Chinese-made HC-545 Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) drone. Franky Mahulete, a member of the First Committee in the Indonesian Parliament responsible for defense, foreign affairs, and intelligence, recently confirmed the test via social media.
Mahulete stated that the trial took place at the Basuruan Air Base of the Indonesian Navy and was successful. Brigadier General Mulyatna, Director of Naval Research and Development, attended the trial. Mahulete did not disclose specific details about the evaluation project, nor did he indicate whether Indonesia is considering signing a procurement contract.
The HC-545 is produced by Beijing-based Honeysuckle Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd. The company describes this drone as a medium-sized VTOL fixed-wing UAV with an upper-wing composite aerodynamic layout. The main body is constructed from carbon fiber composites, while the wings, tail booms, and VTOL components are modularly designed for easy transportation and rapid field deployment.
Honeysuckle Aerospace claims that, when carrying a 50-kilogram payload, the aircraft can achieve a maximum endurance of up to 8 hours. Equipped with encrypted data links, its operational radius can be selected as 50 km, 100 km, or 150 km depending on configuration. According to the company, it uses a gasoline-powered propulsion system capable of operating effectively in both plain and high-altitude environments.
A key feature of the HC-545 is its modular payload architecture, enabling flexible reconfiguration to perform various missions such as Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR), communications relay, and topographic mapping.
