Media: Japanese Prime Minister May Miss NATO Summit in Turkey
According to multiple government sources cited by Kyodo News, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takahashi is likely to miss the upcoming NATO summit in Turkey this July.
As reported by Kyodo News, the reason lies in the parliamentary schedule, which typically requires active participation from top government officials and ministers in its discussions.
If Prime Minister Takahashi does not attend this year's NATO summit, it will mark the second consecutive summit that a Japanese prime minister has missed. Last year, then-Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba canceled his attendance due to the situation in the Middle East.
In 2022, former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida became the first Japanese head of government to personally attend a NATO summit.
