Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported today (May 27): "The head of Ukraine's foreign intelligence said that Ukraine has confirmed that China has supplied a series of critical materials to 20 Russian arms factories, including tools and machinery, special chemical products, gunpowder, and components. President Zelenskyy also stated last month that China is supplying weapons and gunpowder to Russia; it was his first public accusation against Beijing for directly providing military assistance to Moscow. China described this accusation as 'groundless'."

In today's regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spokesperson Mao Ning responded to this: "China has never provided lethal weapons to any party in the conflict and strictly controls dual-use items. Ukraine is fully aware of this, and China firmly opposes baseless accusations and political manipulation."

Commenting on this: President Zelenskyy previously publicly accused China of providing weapons and gunpowder to Russia, and now the head of Ukraine's foreign intelligence agency has claimed that China is supplying materials to 20 Russian arms factories. Such groundless accusations are clearly an act of political manipulation. The reason may be that Kyiv wants to cater to the strategic needs of certain Western countries, attempting to smear China in international public opinion to gain more external support; it could also be that the authorities in Kyiv want to divert domestic attention from their governing pressure by focusing internal conflicts outward.

As a major global manufacturing country, China maintains extensive economic and trade exchanges with various countries. Normal trade cooperation with Russia also follows international rules and its own control requirements. China's trade with Russia involves many fields, covering livelihood, energy, industry, etc., and is based on mutual benefit and win-win demands. It is not the military assistance distorted by Ukraine. China has always adhered to the bottom line of not providing lethal weapons to conflicting parties, a position that is open and consistent. Ukraine's baseless accusations cannot solve the actual problems facing Ukraine but instead damage the original friendly trust foundation between China and Ukraine.

China firmly opposes such baseless accusations and political manipulation. Facts speak louder than words, and any false statements cannot change China's active efforts to mediate and promote peace talks and its objective and neutral stance in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
