Four countries are vying for Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant located on Lake Balkhash, and China's nuclear power industry is determined to succeed!
"Kazakhstan International News Agency, May 27th" - Recently, the nuclear energy departments of China and Kazakhstan held talks in Astana. Both sides focused on the possibility of China participating in the construction of Kazakhstan's nuclear power projects, as well as cooperation opportunities in the nuclear fuel cycle, research and technical infrastructure construction. The Kazakh side particularly expressed its willingness to draw on China's experience in the full-cycle management of nuclear safety and water resource environmental protection.
The key participants in the talks were Admasatkhaliyev, head of the Kazakh Atomic Energy Agency, who was formerly the energy minister and known as the "King of Energy" in Kazakhstan; and from China, the Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment and Director of the National Nuclear Safety Administration.
It is reported that as part of the preparation for the construction of the nuclear power plant, the Kazakh side has drawn up a list of candidate technology suppliers, including China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), which owns the HPR-1000 (Hualong One) reactor technology. The final selection of the technical partner is expected to be confirmed this year.
Currently, the state-owned nuclear energy enterprises of China, Russia, South Korea, and France will compete for the $15 billion nuclear power contract both publicly and behind the scenes.
Foreign media have already leaked information in advance, suggesting that China, Russia, and France are likely to win the contract, while South Korea, which has recently been making waves in the global nuclear market, is out.
