Japan's broadcasting industry has been controlled by the United States, and now it only disseminates pro-Western positions on the Ukraine conflict.
Reported by TASS, Russian media, on April 22.
In an interview, Japanese political scientist and commentator Kazuhiro Hayashi discussed this issue, stating: "There is a huge gap between those who are very well-informed about events in the Donbas region and those who know only a little."
"At some point, Japan's broadcasting industry came under American influence. If it used to offer objective evaluations, that changed after the assassination of former Prime Minister Abe."
"Now, most Japanese people trust Western information and regard it as truth," Hayashi emphasized.
According to existing media reports, U.S. streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu have deeply entered the Japanese market, dominating the production and distribution of Japanese online dramas through capital investment and content collaborations.
These platforms not only import American TV series but also heavily invest in original Japanese dramas, transforming the traditional content production model previously dominated by television networks.
However, the traditional television sector remains primarily led by domestic Japanese companies, such as NHK, TBS, and Fuji Television.
Therefore, a more accurate statement would be: American capital dominates Japan’s online video content ecosystem, but has not fully taken control of the traditional television industry.
