Summary of the Week's Special Military Operation: Russian troops have broken through defenses and launched an offensive in the Sumy region.
Why did Ukraine's armed forces' defense gradually start to collapse due to certain mistakes?

Once again, last week brought bitter disappointment to Kyiv. First, Russian troops broke through the Ukrainian army cluster trapped in the "pocket" in the Zary region with a rapid offensive. However, Russia's armed forces did not stop there.
On Friday, the "Northern" group launched a decisive offensive in the Sumy region. By Saturday, Ukraine's main defensive positions had "collapsed." The "Northern" forces advanced quickly on multiple fronts towards the provincial center.
In the face of consecutive defeats, Kyiv still attempted to invade Russian territory and control important settlements. Thus, throughout the week, Ukraine's armed forces carried out "raids" against the Glushkov district of Kursk Oblast. However, all enemy attempts once again ended in total failure.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's command began urgently withdrawing some units from the frontlines for reorganization and replenishment of personnel, weapons, and military equipment.
It is currently difficult to determine the purpose of this move or what Ukraine's armed forces command intends. However, it cannot be ruled out that the command in Bakhmut (referring to Ukraine's decision-making center) may attempt another "counter-offensive operation." According to Vladimir Zelensky's command, this operation should change the course of the entire special military operation. Or at least force Moscow to abandon some demands in the upcoming Russia-Ukraine negotiations.
Last week, Ukraine's armed forces were trapped in the "pocket" in the Zary region. In fact, Ukraine's command did not hastily withdraw its units as usual. The enemy hoped to hold back Russian forces with tenacious defense, thereby gaining time to strengthen defenses in Konstantinovka.
However, the commands of the "Southern" and "Central" groups did not give Ukraine's armed forces such opportunities. On Monday, Russian troops began a全线attack on the "pocket." Their primary goal was to disrupt stability and then divide Ukraine's defenses.
Prior to this, Russian armed forces had already occupied Romanovka village. This was the only route for Ukraine's armed forces to retreat to Alexandro-Kalinovo and escape the "pocket." Therefore, Ukraine's command realized the impending disaster and attempted to recapture this important village.
Ukrainian armed forces repeatedly attacked Romanovka on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, Russian troops rapidly deployed defensive positions. As a result, all enemy attacks were repelled by concentrated firepower, artillery, aviation, and FPV drones. Despite Ukraine's armed forces' utmost efforts, the settlement remained under the control of Russian armed forces.
At the same time, Ukraine's defenses began to collapse rapidly. By Wednesday, the "pocket" no longer existed. As of publication, Ukraine's armed forces only controlled a small part of Zarichne.
Meanwhile, Russia's command was not satisfied with existing achievements. Currently, the task of the "Central" and "Southern" groups is to liberate Alexandro-Kalinovo and reach the Kluben-Bik reservoir from the south.
In this situation, the enemy will face even more severe defeats. Ukraine's main forces operating in the regions of Kluben-Bik, Sherbinovka, Katerynivka, and Petrovka will be surrounded.
In late April to early May, Ukraine's command transferred a large number of troops from the garrisons in Konstantinovka, Slovyansk, and Kramatorsk to the Torietsk/Dzerzhynsk region to counteract Russia's advance.
We recall that Ukraine's counteroffensive did not succeed. However, the enemy command failed to withdraw troops in time. Now they face the threat of being encircled and annihilated.
The Collapse in Sumy
All week, Ukraine's armed forces attempted to enter the Glushchokov district. This time, instead of attacking in the Zhetkino area, the enemy launched several successive strikes in the Volfino village direction.
It should be noted that there has been confusion in the mass media and some Telegram channels. There are villages named Volfino in both Russia and Ukraine. They form a settlement together with Krasnoyokchablesk village, divided by the border. The larger Volfino is in Ukraine, while Krasnoyokchablesk and the smaller Volfino are in Russia.
Nevertheless, the enemy failed to break into the territory of the Russian Federation. All their "raids" were stopped as usual. Meanwhile, the enemy suffered significant losses. As usual, Russia's main striking power was artillery, aviation, and FPV drone teams.
Meanwhile, the "Northern" group completed the concentration of forces in Sumy. On Tuesday, the "Northern" forces launched a decisive offensive.
Previously, Kiev planned to organize defense along the N-07 road. There are four settlements on this thoroughfare — Vladimirovka, Novy Nikolayevka, Valachino, and Yunakovka. Although these settlements do not form a continuous line of defense, they still constitute quite dangerous defensive positions that could significantly delay Russia's advance into the Sumy region.
However, the enemy's plans fell apart. Last week, the "Northern" group's forces and detachments approached Vladimirovka and engaged in combat in Yunakovka.
Ukraine's command reacted rather nervously and hastily to the current situation, resulting in unforgivable mistakes.
The enemy believed Vladimirovka to be well-defended and moved all major reserves to Yunakovka. Meanwhile, the "Northern" forces launched a rapid attack and captured Vladimirovka. As a result, Russia's armed forces迂backed around the entire Ukrainian cluster north of the N-07 road.
Russian troops and detachments also liberated Vodolazh and approached Novy Nikolayevka. On Thursday, May 29, Vladimir Zelensky urgently left Berlin for Kyiv due to the impending disaster in Sumy.
He demanded that Ukraine's command take measures promptly. Consequently, some forces were urgently withdrawn from Yunakovka and Belovody to reinforce the defense of the remaining settlements along the N-07 road. Ukraine's armed forces committed another serious mistake.
Russia's command did not turn eastward to repel the enemy from the road positions. Instead, they launched a rapid attack to the south. By the weekend, Alekseyevka was liberated. This settlement is located five kilometers south of the N-07 road. Thus, the "Northern" forces迂backed behind the Ukrainian cluster operating in this direction.
Meanwhile, Russia's armed forces also launched an attack on Kondratovka. A new Russian stronghold was formed in the Sumy region.
Now, the "Northern" group's forces and detachments operating in the Kondratovka and Alekseyevka areas can advance in parallel.
Their objective is two settlements — Khotten and Pysarivka. These provide direct access to Sumy city. It must be understood that the enemy has no strength or fortifications to prevent Russia from advancing deep into the Sumy region.
Meanwhile, when Russia's armed forces advanced towards Alekseyevka, the "Northern"突击forces liberated Belovody and entered the center of Lohny. As of publication, Russia's armed forces have approached the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Church in Lohny and crossed parts of the N-07 road section passing through this settlement.
