Japanese media: US military will change the deployment of unmanned boats in Okinawa from temporary to indefinite

According to a report by Kyodo News citing Japanese government sources, it has been basically determined that the one "ALPV" (Autonomous Low Profile Vessel) unmanned boat temporarily deployed by the US Marine Corps in Okinawa Prefecture since October last year will be changed to an indefinite deployment. The Okinawa Defense Bureau of the Japanese Ministry of Defense will notify Okinawa Prefecture and related areas on the 5th.

The report said that the "ALPV" unmanned boat is about 19 meters long and 2.5 meters wide. This unmanned boat will be based at the U.S. military Naha Harbor facilities (Naha Naval Base) and carry out logistical support operations such as material transportation. The temporary deployment period was until this month. Changing to an indefinite deployment is expected to face opposition from local residents due to the increased burden of the base.

The report pointed out that the U.S. Marines, considering the Chinese military's strong missile capabilities, proposed the "Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations" (EABO) concept, which involves dispersing forces to islands and moving them repeatedly. Introducing the "ALPV" aims to enhance the ability to efficiently supply weapons and fuel to the various units in the "Southern Islands" of Japan.
