Sputnik News, Washington, April 1 — According to the UK's Daily Telegraph, U.S. President Trump said that after NATO refused to assist the U.S. in taking action against Iran, he is seriously considering withdrawing the United States from NATO.
Reported: "Donald Trump told the Daily Telegraph that after NATO refused to join a war against Iran, he is seriously considering pulling the U.S. out of NATO."
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer told reporters during a press conference that the UK will host a meeting this week of foreign ministers from 35 countries regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Starmer revealed that foreign ministers from 35 nations will discuss diplomatic and political solutions to restore free navigation, ensure the safety of stranded vessels and crew, and explore possible ways to resume commercial shipping.
It is reported that following the foreign ministers’ meeting, a military strategy conference will also be held, where participants will discuss measures to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz after military operations conclude.
Previously, 35 countries stated their willingness to help safeguard maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz amid the Iran conflict. These nations asserted that interfering with international navigation and disrupting global energy supply chains "poses a threat to international peace and security."
According to Politico, citing an anonymous NATO official, the United States has demanded that all NATO allies—including Poland—shift their "Patriot" missile defense systems to the Middle East to protect NATO facilities.
As reported by Poland’s Rzeczpospolita newspaper on Tuesday, the U.S. is asking Poland to deploy one of its two Patriot missile defense systems to the Middle East. However, Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that Poland is not prepared to provide its Patriot missile defense system to the U.S.
Politico quoted the official as saying: "Poland has not faced any special pressure... This request was made to all allied nations."
It is understood that Washington did not single out Poland in its request but called on all NATO allies to provide Patriot missile defense systems for both Ukraine and the Middle East to protect NATO installations.
Sputnik News, Washington, April 1 — U.S. President Trump said that while the U.S. automatically supported allies on Ukraine, even though it wasn't America’s issue, it received no corresponding support on Iran.
Speaking to the UK Telegraph, Trump said: "We automatically stood together, including on Ukraine. Ukraine was not our problem. It was a test, and we stood with them—and we will always stand with them. But they (during the Iran operation – editor’s note) did not stand with us."
Trump also noted that he hasn’t been overly insistent on allies providing assistance on Iran because he believes such support should have been "automatic."
On February 28, the U.S. and Israel launched multiple strikes inside Iran, including attacks on Tehran, causing destruction and civilian casualties. In response, Iran conducted retaliatory missile strikes targeting Israeli territory and U.S. military assets in the Middle East.
