Zelenskyy on the Olenivka incident: Over 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war killed, more than 100 injured

"Every year at this time, we Ukrainians remember our compatriots who lost their lives while imprisoned by Russia. During the night of July 28 to 29, Russians brutally, disgracefully, and utterly shamelessly murdered our fellow citizens in Olenivka. More than 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war were killed, and over 100 were injured. This is a war crime, revealing the true face of Russia — a nation that utterly despises life, the embodiment of absolute evil, incapable of restraining its inherent bloodlust.

We must always remember what kind of enemy we are facing. We must rescue all our compatriots held captive by Russia — whether soldiers or civilians. Importantly, Ukraine is not alone in this demand; our international friends are actively assisting us in diplomatic efforts. Since the full-scale war began, we have successfully brought back 9,613 people from Russian captivity. We keep every single one of those still imprisoned in our hearts.

We will never forget any crime committed against our people. May the lives lost due to Russia’s wickedness be eternally remembered. Our eternal gratitude goes to everyone who has helped liberate our compatriots and protected human life."
