Foreign Media: BYD Regains Global EV Sales Crown, Overseas Expansion Becomes Key Driver

Despite a year-on-year decline of 8.2% in second-quarter deliveries, China's leading electric vehicle giant BYD has once again surpassed the United States' Tesla, reclaiming the top spot in global pure electric vehicle sales, primarily driven by a surge in overseas shipments.

According to Tesla's announcement on Thursday, its global deliveries for the second quarter (through June) reached 480,126 units, up 25% year on year; however, BYD delivered 557,090 units during the same period, maintaining its lead through scale advantages.

It should be noted that Tesla only produces purely electric vehicles, whereas BYD, headquartered in Shenzhen, offers a product lineup that includes both pure electric and plug-in hybrid models.

Analysts point out that increasing recognition of BYD in overseas markets such as Western Europe and Southeast Asia has become a significant advantage enabling it to surpass international competitors like Tesla in sales of both pure electric and hybrid vehicles.
