[Zelenskyy: Sumy City Center Attacked by Russian Ballistic Missiles]
On the morning of April 13, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the Military Administration of the Sumy region reported that the Russian army had launched two rounds of missile attacks on the city center of Sumy. The attack has resulted in 21 deaths and at least 83 people injured, including 7 children.
The aftermath of the attack is still being verified. The Military Administration of the Sumy region released photos and videos of the area after the attack. The images show that at least one non-residential building was damaged, and multiple vehicles were burned.
Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko stated, "People were injured in the middle of the streets, inside cars, public transportation, and homes. Police have restricted access to the affected area." Rescue and relief work are currently underway on site.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said, "The terrifying attack by Russian ballistic missiles on Sumy. Enemy missiles hit ordinary city streets, ordinary life scenes: houses, educational institutions, vehicles on the streets... On this day, people were heading to the church: Palm Sunday, the festival commemorating the Lord's entry into Jerusalem. Preliminary data shows dozens of civilian casualties. Only the despicable would do such a thing, taking the lives of ordinary people."
Zelenskyy called on the United States, Europe, and other countries to make a strong response to this attack. "Russia precisely wants such terror and attempts to prolong this war. There can be no peace without pressure on the aggressors. Empty talk has never stopped ballistic missiles and aviation bombs. The world needs to treat Russia as it would treat terrorists."
