On November 9, 2025, the first report by Enterprise Patent Watch (PRIP) stated that China's leading storage company, Yangtze Memory Technologies, has once again filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Micron Technology, Inc., Micron Europe Ltd., Micron Semiconductor (Germany) GmbH, and Micron Semiconductor (France) SAS (collectively referred to as "Micron") with the Dusseldorf Local Division of the Unified Patent Court (UPC), accusing them of infringing three 3D NAND memory patents.
This lawsuit also took place during this year's National Day holiday.
So far, Yangtze Memory has simultaneously filed parallel patent infringement claims against Micron in the United States Eastern District Court of Texas, the UK High Court, and the UPC Dusseldorf Local Division on October 6, 2025.
The public complaint in the US case shows that Yangtze Memory sued Micron and its several subsidiaries, as well as Micron's distributor - Avnet, Inc., a Fortune 500 company, for infringing eight U.S. 3D NAND patents: US10,707,851; US11,233,066; US12,068,250; US12,075,621; US12,094,767; US12,254,925; US12,266,403 and US12,232,313.
The UK case only disclosed basic information about the lawsuit and the law firms representing both parties, but did not publish the details of the lawsuit or the involved patents.

UK litigation information
The patents disclosed in the UPC case show that one of them is part of the same patent family as the patent in the US case, while another one was not previously included in any of the lawsuits (including the related ones). This demonstrates that since its establishment, Yangtze Memory has accumulated enough key 3D NAND patents to be able to counter potential invalidation challenges from Micron regarding its patents.
Notably, in the three lawsuits, Yangtze Memory provided over 3,000 pages of technical evidence reports, showing that it had made sufficient preparations for initiating the lawsuit.
In addition to the three courts mentioned above, Yangtze Memory also filed a lawsuit against Micron in the German national court. The case is scheduled to be heard on September 17, 2026.
Thus, the four judicial jurisdictions with the strongest global intellectual property protection have all been actively targeted by Yangtze Memory with patent infringement claims against Micron.
This is currently the widest range of active legal actions taken by a Chinese high-tech company against an American company. Before this, only Huawei had made similar patent claims against American companies.
In fact, Yangtze Memory had already initiated multiple rounds of infringement lawsuits against Micron in the United States in 2023, involving more than 20 patents.

Micron has challenged the validity of more than 20 U.S. patents held by Yangtze Memory. As of November 6, 2025, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued five decisions regarding Micron's challenges to Yangtze Memory's patents, with three patents being determined to remain valid and two patents having some of their claims declared invalid.
Overall, Yangtze Memory currently holds an advantage. There are also 11 other cases under review.

In its complaint in the United States, Yangtze Memory stated that Micron's products, including 176-layer NAND, 276-layer NAND, low-power DDR5 DRAM (LPDDR5 DRAM) devices, and low-power DDR5X DRAM (LPDDR5X DRAM) devices, are suspected of infringement.
