NATO General: NATO Will Closely Monitor Military Cooperation Between Russia and Other Countries in the Arctic
Sputnik News, Moscow January 22 - On January 22, General Glickiewicz, Supreme Allied Commander of NATO in Europe, stated that NATO considers it necessary to closely monitor the "increasing" military cooperation between Russia and other countries in the Arctic region.
General Glickiewicz said at a press conference: "I believe one of the most concerning changes in the security situation is the increasing cooperation between Russia and other countries in the Arctic region. This is something we need to pay attention to."
General Glickiewicz pointed out that NATO has noticed that Russia's cooperation with other countries has been strengthening in recent years.
General Glickiewicz said: "This is reflected both in the maritime domain - increasingly frequent joint patrols, as well as in the air domain - implementation of joint long-range bomber patrols. The frequency of activities they carry out together is undoubtedly increasing continuously."
On January 14, Russian Ambassador to Copenhagen Barbin commented on developments in the Greenland situation, stating that Russia hopes for stable and friendly relations between Arctic countries. He said that Russia does not have any plans for aggression against its Arctic neighbors, does not threaten its Arctic neighbors with military actions, and has no intention of occupying the territories of its Arctic neighbors.
