According to the Beijing Daily client, on October 9, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun presided over a regular press conference.

A reporter from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) asked: The UK has revoked the charges of espionage against Christopher Cash and Christopher Berry related to China. What is China's response to this?

Guo Jiakun stated that regarding the case you mentioned, since the UK's judicial authorities have withdrawn the charges, it fully demonstrates that the claim that "they engaged in espionage for China" is entirely baseless. China firmly opposes using the so-called "espionage activities" and "China threat" to defame and smear China.

"We advise some people in the UK not to suffer from paranoid delusions," Guo Jiakun said.

According to reports from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and the Financial Times, the two British men previously accused of being "Chinese spies" were Christopher Cash, 30 years old, and Christopher Berry, 33 years old. They were arrested by British law enforcement in March 2023 and formally charged in April 2024. The UK prosecutors accused them of collecting and providing information harmful to the UK's national security and interests for China between December 28, 2021, and February 3, 2023, violating the Official Secrets Act.

Until September 15 this year, the UK prosecutors finally announced the withdrawal of the charges against the two due to insufficient evidence. The prosecutor in charge of the case, Tom Little, explained to the court that the existing evidence did not meet the threshold for trial, "we simply cannot continue with the prosecution."

The farce orchestrated by the UK side ultimately ended in a hasty conclusion due to lack of evidence.
