[By Guancha Observer Network, Chen Sijia] On the evening of June 17 local time, Indian Prime Minister Modi had a telephone conversation with US President Trump. According to The Indian Express on June 18, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that during the call, Modi clearly told Trump that India and Pakistan had ceased fire four days after the conflict erupted, which was achieved through military negotiations between the two countries' militaries and never accepted American mediation.

The phone call lasted for 35 minutes, marking the first communication between the leaders of the two countries since the conflict between India and Pakistan last month. Misri stated in a statement on June 18: "Prime Minister Modi clearly informed President Trump that at no time and at any level during the entire conflict were discussions held regarding the India-US trade agreement or the US mediation between India and Pakistan."

The statement said: "The prime minister indicated that the negotiations to cease military actions were conducted directly through existing military channels between India and Pakistan and were carried out at Pakistan's request."

The Indian Express pointed out that Modi and Trump were originally scheduled to meet during the G7 Summit, but due to Trump leaving Canada a day earlier, the meeting did not take place. During their phone call on the evening of June 17, Modi introduced Trump to India's "Operation Vermilion" launched last month, emphasizing that India's military operations against Pakistan were "measured, precise, and non-escalatory."

He told Trump that if Pakistan attacked India in the future, it would face "a stronger retaliatory response."

Modi also reiterated India's stance on third-party mediation on the Kashmir issue, claiming: "India has never, does not now, and will never accept mediation on the Kashmir issue."

In addition, Misri mentioned in the statement that during the call, Trump invited Modi to visit the United States after leaving Canada, but Modi declined the invitation, citing plans to visit Croatia on June 18. Modi also invited Trump to visit India to attend the "Quad Security Dialogue (QUAD)" summit to be held in India later this year, and Trump accepted the invitation.

On May 7, the Indian Air Force launched an air strike codenamed "Operation Vermilion," targeting nine locations in Pakistan and the Pakistan-controlled Kashmir region. On the same day, the Pakistan Army Media Wing stated that as a response, Pakistan shot down six Indian aircraft, including three Dassault Mirage 2000 fighters, one Sukhoi Su-30 fighter, one Mikoyan MiG-29 fighter, and one IAI Heron drone.

The cause of this round of conflict was a gunfight that occurred in the Indian-controlled Kashmir region on April 22, resulting in at least 26 deaths. India attributed the incident to Pakistan's long-term "support for cross-border terrorism activities," while Pakistan denied the allegations.

On May 10, India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire agreement. Trump immediately took credit on social media, claiming that the ceasefire was reached under "American mediation." However, the Indian side quickly denied this claim, stating that the ceasefire was "directly negotiated under Pakistan's insistence."

The Pakistani military spokesman said that India requested a call after the conflict erupted, and Pakistan responded to the request under the multilateral mediation of various countries on May 10.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry reiterated on May 27 that Pakistan remained committed to achieving peace based on mutual respect and equal sovereignty, and any threat to Pakistan's security or territorial integrity would face a "firm and proportional response." Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh publicly stated on May 30 that India's "Operation Vermilion" had been temporarily suspended but not concluded, and India would respond to any future "aggression" from Pakistan using naval firepower.
