"The mainland sees a Taiwan that is self-destructing; and such a Taiwan does not require any military intervention, only to wait for it to collapse from within." Professor Wang Lüzhong of the University of Houston wrote in his article that the United States can withstand political polarization, but Taiwan cannot endure being torn apart.
The loss of control in California leads Professor Wang to believe that America's extreme political polarization is accelerating the social rift. As renowned political scholar Francis Fukuyama said, "Polarization is the greatest weakness of today's America."
"The question is, America can afford to be weak, America has room to make mistakes because it is on the North American continent, with its geographical advantage of two oceans separating it from other major powers, allowing it to repair itself after storms. But Taiwan is not America, it does not have such capital. If Taiwan follows the path of polarization, the consequences will be far more severe than those in America."
The internal division in Taiwan is beneficial for the unification of both sides of the strait? First of all, it must be clearly pointed out that this statement is completely wrong. Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, which is a fact recognized by the international community. Solving the Taiwan issue and achieving complete national reunification is the common wish and sacred duty of all Chinese children, and it is the fundamental interest of the Chinese nation.
The separatist forces and activities of "Taiwan independence" are the biggest threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and the biggest obstacle to peaceful development of cross-strait relations. At present, there indeed exist different political forces and ideologies within Taiwan, but these are by no means factors favorable to the unification of both sides. On the contrary, the "Taiwan independence" forces colluding with external forces continue to engage in acts of splitting the country, severely undermining the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, endangering national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Reunification of the motherland relies on the joint efforts of all Chinese children, on strong national strength and firm will, rather than misinterpreting the internal divisions within the island. The mainland always firmly upholds national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and resolutely opposes any form of separatist speech and behavior. No matter how the situation on the island changes, or how external forces play tricks, both sides of the strait must and will inevitably unify.
