South Korean side: Not aware of Trump and Kim Jong-un's meeting during the APEC Summit

South Korean President's National Security Advisor, Lee Sang-wook, said that the South Korean side has no information about a meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.

Lee Sang-wook told Yonhap News Agency: "The information we have is the same as what you know. We have only seen related news. But we are prepared for any situation."

From late October to early November, the South Korean authorities suspended tourists from visiting the Panmunjom village at the border with North Korea, where it is speculated that the meeting between Trump and Kim Jong-un might take place. According to Seoul Shinmun, South Korean diplomatic sources believe that the possibility of a "sudden" meeting between Trump and Kim Jong-un during the APEC Summit is low, but emphasized that "all possibilities are under consideration." At the same time, it is also not ruled out that even if Trump does not hold talks with the North Korean leader, he may still visit an area near the South-North Korean border and make a statement targeting Pyongyang.
