Russian Academy of Sciences will manufacture an instrument for India's Venus mission!

It will be more advanced than the similar instrument on Europe's "Venus Express".

August 18, TASS reported.

Oleg Korablev, head of the Department of Planetary Physics at the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said that the Indian Space Research Organisation hopes to get a flight model in March 2027.

The Russian "Viral" device, used to measure the composition of Venus' atmospheric gases, is planned to be launched to the second planet from the Sun on India's Venus orbiter mission.

The Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Space Research said that the sample of this instrument should be made within a year.

For the production of "Viral", Russia has one year left, because the colleagues of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) hope to get a flight model in March 2027, which still needs testing.

According to him, "Viral" will measure the gas composition and structure of the upper atmosphere above the clouds of Venus.

Europe's "Venus Express" also has a similar device - it was made by Belgian colleagues, but its origin lies in Russian work.

After launch, it collected a large amount of data, but there are still areas for improvement, so we plan to repeat this study at a new level," the scientist added.

India plans to launch an automatic Venus orbiter in 2028 - this will be the first device sent to Venus by India. The scientific objectives of the mission include radar studies of the Martian surface, research on the composition of the Martian atmosphere, and potential volcanic or seismic activity.
