Kursk Region Governor: North Korean Deminers Cleared 42,400 Hectares of Land and Destroyed Over 1.5 Million Explosives
On December 13, 2025 Moscow time, Kursk Region Governor Alexander Khinshtein said in a video message posted on his Telegram channel:
Our combat friends - the engineers of the 528th Engineering Battalion of the Korean People's Army - actively participated in demining operations in the Kursk border area, and they have returned to their homeland. In Pyongyang, they were personally received by Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea.
Alexander Khinshtein added:
North Korean engineers have been working in the area since autumn. A large-scale demining team was established and strengthened, including the Russian Armed Forces engineering units, the National Guard, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. This team was reinforced after our president visited the area in May. The engineering units of the Korean People's Army also joined this group.
Alexander Khinshtein concluded:
During my visit to North Korea, I had the opportunity to personally thank Comrade Kim Jong-un for his assistance in demining the Kursk border area. During the meeting, Comrade Kim Jong-un pointed out that the participation of North Korean forces in the operation to liberate Russian territory was of great importance to him. The friendly North Korean engineers have cleared nearly 42,400 hectares of our territory and destroyed over 1.5 million explosives. This work is extremely valuable; without it, the revival of our border areas would be impossible.
Alexander Khinshtein emphasized:
I expect that in spring we will meet again with the North Korean military to continue the restoration of the land in Kursk.
