【Trump: No intention to renew the US-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement】

On June 10, 2026, in Washington time, after signing the immigration appropriations bill in the Oval Office, U.S. President Donald Trump responded to questions from on-site reporters:

I do not intend to renew the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (Note: if this trade agreement is not renewed by July 1, 2026, it will face annual review and could expire by 2036). Although I initially negotiated this agreement to replace the earlier North American Free Trade Agreement, the previous agreement was worse than the USMCA. That said, I remain dissatisfied with the final outcome.

Trump added:

You know, we have a trade deficit with Mexico and Canada. We should have a trade surplus with them. We don’t need their cars, we don’t need their lumber, we don’t need their energy, or anything else they have.
