The call for "boycotting American goods" is rising again, entrepreneurs: Learn from China, develop your own social media platform

The "glass friendship" between the United States and India has recently crumbled, and anti-American sentiment is beginning to rise in India.

According to a Reuters report on August 11, from McDonald's, Coca-Cola to Amazon and Apple, American multinational companies in India are facing calls for boycotts. Supporters of Indian Prime Minister Modi and related business groups have urged consumers to turn to local products to protest American tariffs. Some Indian entrepreneurs have also taken the opportunity to advocate for "Made in India" and call for building their own social media platforms like China.

The report said that India is the most populous country in the world and a key market for American brands. These American brands have rapidly expanded in India, targeting an increasingly affluent consumer group, many of whom are fond of international brands, seeing them as a symbol of improved living standards.

For example, India is the largest market for WhatsApp, owned by Meta; Domino's Pizza has more stores in India than any other brand. Beverages such as Pepsi and Coca-Cola often occupy the main positions on store shelves, and when new Apple stores open or Starbucks offers discounts, people still queue up.

Although American brands currently do not show direct signs of sales being affected, after Trump imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods, there has been increasing calls on local social media and offline to buy local products and abandon American products.

McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Amazon, and Apple did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.
