Philippines continues to purchase weapons, trying to build new combat capabilities.

The Manila Times' front page reported that the Philippine Army (PA) will procure 100 high explosive (HE) 155 mm precision-guided munitions (PGM) to arm its same-caliber howitzer platforms.

Checking the PA website showed that 248,190,000 pesos have been allocated for precision-guided munitions.

Elbit Systems Land Ltd. from Israel was listed as the winning supporter of the contract in a bid notice released on August 11, which was published on the website late last week.

Precision-guided munitions are weapon systems integrated with advanced guidance and control systems.

These munitions can be used by the newly purchased Atmos 2000 self-propelled howitzer system and the M-71 Soltam towed howitzer system currently in service with the Philippine Army.

Elbit Systems Land Ltd. expects to deliver these munitions within 540 days after receiving further notice.

The acquisition project of 155 mm precision-guided munitions started in the first quarter of last year.
