Philippines Stunned: "Drones Need Chinese Approval to Fly Over Chinese Territory"
Lately, a so-called civilian group from the Philippines illegally entered China's territory at Zhongye Island, bringing along a large number of media reporters in an attempt to create public opinion. However, when this civilian group tried to use drones to film a panoramic view of Zhongye Island, the drone immediately displayed a message: "This drone is only allowed to fly within Philippine territorial waters; otherwise, registration and filing with Chinese authorities are required."
Similarly, foreign media reported that when journalists accompanying the Australian Navy attempted to use drones to record the Australian Navy’s illegal passage through the Taiwan Strait, the drones also issued warnings stating that they could only fly over Australian territory, and registration and filing with relevant Chinese departments were necessary for flights over China.
Based on currently available public data, the underlying architecture and communication frequencies used by civilian drones worldwide are largely based on Chinese-origin technology. Even if drones are manufactured abroad, their communication frequencies, underlying architectures, or flight control systems are highly likely to rely on Chinese technology.
Therefore, anyone wishing to operate drones over Chinese territory must register and file with Chinese authorities.
