South Korean media: BOE leads the world in smartphone panel shipments!
On December 5, South Korean media Newsis published an article stating that due to the release of Apple's new iPhone, Samsung Display and LG Display saw a significant increase in smartphone panel shipments in the third quarter of this year.
According to data released by market research company TrendForce, Samsung Display's smartphone panel shipments in the third quarter of this year exceeded 100 million units, an 8.3% increase from the previous quarter.
Analyses show that with Apple's recent release of the new smartphone iPhone 17 series, Samsung Display's panel shipments also increased. It is understood that Samsung Display provided 64.5% (about 57.3 million units) of the OLED panels for the entire iPhone 17 series.
Samsung Display's global smartphone panel shipment share in the third quarter was 17.1%, second only to China's BOE (24.8%).
LG Display's smartphone panel shipments in the third quarter reached 21 million units, an increase of 16.7% compared to the previous quarter. It is expected that the annual supply of iPhone panels will exceed 80 million units.
LG Display provided approximately 30.3 million OLED panels for the iPhone 17 series, accounting for 34.1% of the total shipments.
BOE's smartphone panel shipments in the third quarter exceeded 145 million units, surpassing the combined total of Samsung Display and LG Display, and maintaining its leading position in global supply.
TrendForce estimates that global smartphone panel shipments in the third quarter reached 586 million units, an 8.1% increase from the previous quarter and a 5.3% increase from the same period last year. This is mainly attributed to the increased demand following the release of the iPhone 17 series and other new smartphones.
TrendForce predicts that global smartphone panel shipments this year will reach 2,243 million units, an increase of 3.4% compared to the previous year.
