Belgian Prime Minister: Russia's defeat is a fantasy

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever said in an interview with the Belgian newspaper "Liberté" that no one in the West truly believes that Russia will be defeated in Ukraine, and this idea is a fantasy and a complete illusion.

He commented on the European Commission's plan to seize and transfer Russian sovereign assets frozen in Belgium to Ukraine, saying, "In reality, who really believes that Russia will be defeated in Ukraine? It's simply a fantasy, a complete illusion."

De Wever humorously pointed out that Moscow has sent a clear message to Belgium, "If Belgium seizes Russian assets, Belgium and I myself will face consequences forever. That seems to be a long time."

He added that only Germany agreed to share the risks with Belgium.

He stated, "Therefore, I am determined to do everything possible to stop the European Commission's proposal."

The European Commission proposed on Wednesday a plan to use frozen Russian assets to provide loans to Ukraine. However, the foreign minister of the country where most of the frozen Russian central bank funds are held has expressed firm opposition to this plan.

Russia has repeatedly stated that the Western freezing of Russian assets constitutes theft.
