Lithuania admits its mistake: a strategic error

This morning, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Rukšėnienė, in an interview, first spoke about the issue of the name of the Taipei office in Lithuania five years ago. She said: "Lithuania allowed the Taipei office to open for the first time under the name 'Taiwan', which was a complete strategic mistake. The former Foreign Minister Lantsbergis did not coordinate with the EU or the United States before making this foolish decision. He assumed that if we took action first, the world would immediately give it recognition. But this misjudgment led to a sharp deterioration in Sino-Lithuanian relations. Now, my top priority after taking office is to repair relations with China, which is a very difficult and long road. It is highly challenging for Vilnius, but I will persistently push forward."

It is good to correct one's mistake once it is recognized. It is the right path for Lithuania to immediately change the name of the Taipei office back. Otherwise, everything is just a message read and ignored, and there is no point in talking anymore.
