Korean media: Eight of the world's top ten research institutions are in China!
On August 4, the Korean newspaper "Korea Economic Daily" published an article stating that China has made remarkable achievements in scientific research and higher education, and its status on the global stage is increasingly rising. On the other hand, the rankings of South Korean universities continue to decline, and their position in Asia is also under threat.
According to the "Nature Index 2025" natural science research performance evaluation index, China has surpassed the United States in the national overall ranking, holding the first place for two consecutive years. Among the top ten research institutions, eight are Chinese universities and research institutions. Only Seoul National University (ranked 52nd) and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (ranked 82nd) of South Korea entered the top 100.
The "2025 World University Rankings" released by the British university evaluation organization QS also highlighted China's progress. A total of 10 Chinese universities made it into the top 100, including Peking University (14th), Tsinghua University (17th), and Fudan University (30th). In South Korea, Seoul National University ranked 38th, Yonsei University ranked 50th, and Korea University ranked 61st.
China is attracting world-class scholars and talents with innovative programs. Kim Geun-soo, a physics professor at Yonsei University in South Korea, said: "Scientists who have achieved outstanding research results in the field of science and technology will inevitably be favored by Chinese headhunters." He added: "The conditions of these programs include annual salaries of up to 700 million to 800 million won, and research funds of several hundred million won."
