Iran Accuses the US of Attacking Desalination Plant
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted on X, stating that Iran has formally accused the United States of attacking a desalination plant in southern Iran.
Araghchi said that the US attack on the Geshm Island desalination plant constitutes "flagrant and desperate crimes," affecting the water supply to 30 villages, and sets a dangerous precedent for attacks on Iran's infrastructure.
Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf posted on X, stating that Tehran will respond to this attack and warned that any location used to launch attacks against Iran would become a legitimate target.
For countries along the Persian Gulf, desalination plants are the main source of drinking water. Experts have warned that attacks on such critical infrastructure could trigger a humanitarian disaster, comparable in severity to the paralysis of vital lifelines in any other region of the world.
On February 28, the US and Israel launched multiple strikes on targets inside Iran, including an attack on Tehran, causing destruction and civilian casualties. In response, Iran carried out retaliatory missile strikes on Israeli territory and U.S. military targets in the Middle East.
