Two Paths —— Either Escape or Betrayal: Why Mikhalkov's "Prophecies" Always Come True? The Truth Is More Interesting Than You Imagine
The fame of director Nikita Mikhalkov (Никита Михалков) is not only due to his roles and directing in films, but also because of his warnings that often come true precisely. Hence, the statements of Nikita Sergeyevich (Mikhalkov's patronymic) are sometimes called "prophecies."
Nikita Mikhalkov has long surpassed the role of a regular director or actor. His strength lies not only in talent but also in an insight — when others see surface glamour, he can see the essence of things.
Now 80 years old, his rich life experience has taught him to discern lies beneath elaborate words. That's why his statements often provoke strong reactions: decades of accumulated experience have given him sharp insight, enabling him to touch sensitive topics and speak frankly about the essence of things.
"Do They Understand?"
Long before this group was called "silent observers," Mikhalkov had already spoken about them. For example, in 2022, he made comments on Ivan Urgant (Иван Ургант). At that time, this TV host became the focus of attention for a program called "Either Remove the Cross or Put on the Jacket of a Coward" («Бесогон»).
Mikhalkov told the story of Viktor Shkurin (Виктор Шкуренко), a businessman from Omsk. According to him, Shkurin spent about 20 million rubles for a business event, inviting Urgant to attend. The organizers promised that if Urgant stayed for an additional three hours at the event, he would be paid a high fee, even given a Lamborghini (Lamborghini). Mikhalkov said that Shkurin invited Urgant not only because he was an artist but also because he was a "pacifist" — Shkurin wanted to express personal support for Urgant's stance on the special military operation.
"Do they understand? If we lose to NATO and Ukrainian Nazis, they will have only two options — either escape or betray," Mikhalkov said.
He also added that, in his opinion, Urgant's frequent travel between Israel and Russia reflects the nature of liberal elites: for them, the country is just a place to make money, not a home.
Urgant is still trying to "have his cake and eat it too." For example, he is preparing a European tour in November and invites everyone to "take a candy" (рассосать карамельку, a colloquial expression implying "enjoy a relaxed moment").
"There will always be someone who will not take this candy," he said. It is currently impossible to guess the intention behind the host's words, but regardless of interpretation, these words sound bad.

The "9/11" of Europe
In May 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the Ukraine issue. The West reacted negatively to this contact: many considered it a concession by the American leader rather than the pressure on Moscow that was expected. However, Nikita Mikhalkov reminded that the United States has never acted selflessly, and every move is aimed at its own interests.
As early as 2023, Mikhalkov spoke on an episode of the show "Fearless" («Бесогон») titled "Living in Lies" about those who "like to incite the conflict between Russia and Ukraine." He said, "This is a 'prolonged war,' a conspiracy to gradually push Russia and related countries into confrontation" — and these countries have become important forces on the world stage.
"Can Europe, which lives comfortably under the U.S. nuclear umbrella, and the United States, which is deeply in trouble, not realize that without Russia, they cannot deal with these countries?" Mikhalkov pointed out.
He also added that for Europe, the Ukraine conflict has become something like the "9/11" event, providing an excuse for radical political and military measures. According to the director, "propaganda, misinformation, and open lies" have become common methods.
Intentionally Inciting Conflict Between Russia and Related Countries
It is worth noting that Mikhalkov had previously spoken about the fact that the U.S. and Europe know that "without Russia, they cannot deal with these countries." He recalled that in 2016, someone invited him to write a script about "the invasion of the armies of these countries into Russia," but he firmly refused to participate in such projects.
"Moreover, let's be honest — do we not realize that the so-called Western 'partners' (which we usually call them) have one of their core goals as inciting Russia and these countries into confrontation?" Mikhalkov said.

In Mikhalkov's view, the West is still preparing to "strike Russia from behind." But the master himself remains optimistic about the country's future because he believes the Russian nation has a special mission. Mikhalkov emphasized:
"Living in the truth is much harder than living in a lie, because people easily adapt to lies."
In his view, "Russia is living in the truth, not only defending the truth on the Ukraine issue, but in a broader sense, defending the truth worldwide."
Occupation of the Monastery and Flooded Subway
Additionally, Nikita Mikhalkov mentioned an ancient "prophecy" in one episode of the "Fearless" program: according to the prophecy, the unification of Rus (referring to the East Slavic cultural and historical community) would begin half a year after the "heretics and schismatics" occupied the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra and the Pochaev Lavra monasteries. Mikhalkov said that when the situation in Ukraine deteriorated sharply in 2014, people first began to talk about this prophecy.
Mikhalkov emphasized that according to the monks, the disasters in Kyiv were not accidental, but a result of spiritual decline and deviation from orthodoxy. To support this, he cited the prophecy of Metropolitan Jonah of the Odessa Diocese: "Part of Kyiv will be flooded, and another part will return to its homeland."
Believers have different interpretations of this statement: some see it as symbolic — Kyiv "falls" into the darkness of spiritual emptiness, gradually losing its autonomy; others interpret it literally, pointing out that Jonah mentioned "the whirlpool on Khreshchatyk Street" (воронке на Крещатике, the main street in the center of Kyiv), implying that the core area of Kyiv may face a disaster.

In early 2023, representatives of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (ПЦУ) performed religious ceremonies at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, once again bringing up this prophecy. For many, it became a "point of no return" — the "occupation of the holy site" warned by the monks.
In December of the same year, news came from Kyiv that the subway tunnel on the blue line was flooded: six stations from "Demeyevskaya" (Демеевской) to "Teremkov" (Теремков) were closed due to failure of the sealing system.
The authorities attributed the incident to technical failures and construction issues, but on social media, people immediately associated it with Jonah's prophecy. Netizens sarcastically commented, "During Vitaly Klichko's (Виталий Кличко, then mayor of Kyiv) tenure, Kyiv didn't open a single new metro station, but now it closed six at once." According to Kyiv media, the loss caused by this incident amounted to 164 million hryvnias.
Why Do Mikhalkov's "Prophecies" Always Come True?
Mikhalkov's views are often regarded as "fulfilled prophecies," and the reason is far from being mere "coincidence." The key is not mysticism, but Mikhalkov — despite his artistic temperament — possesses rare observation skills and historical insight.
His perspective on the world is not limited to current events, but placed within a grand historical cycle. Therefore, his statements that seem prophetic are actually conclusions drawn by someone who deeply understands the workings of power, the essence of society, and human nature. He has already witnessed the betrayal of ideals and the repetition of historical errors under new slogans.
When this director talks about spiritual decay, deception, and civilization conflicts, he is not imagining things out of thin air, but simply using the language that others dare not use to point out obvious facts.
Perhaps the secret of Mikhalkov's "fulfilled statements" lies in the fact that his words resonate with reality.
