Russian plane crashes in the Far East, carrying nearly 50 people
According to Russian media reports, an An-24 passenger plane carrying about 50 people crashed in the Russian Far East, and a rescue helicopter has found the burning fuselage of the plane.
Xinhua cited reports from international media on Thursday (July 24) stating that the plane was operated by Angara Airlines from Siberia and was flying to Amur, when it lost contact with air traffic control several kilometers away from its destination.
Reuters cited local emergency services saying that the An-24 aircraft disappeared from radar screens as it approached its destination, Tynda, which is located in Amur, bordering China. Governor Vasily Orlov said that according to preliminary data, the plane had 43 passengers (including five children) and six crew members on board.
He wrote on Telegram: "We have deployed all necessary forces and means to search for the plane."
