Shocked by China and the US! Japan Decides to Develop "AI" Independently

Japanese media, Kyodo News, reported on October 12 that the Japanese government has decided to clearly promote the development goal of independent and self-reliant artificial intelligence (AI) in the "Artificial Intelligence Basic Plan" that outlines AI policies.

"We cannot overly rely on overseas artificial intelligence that affects national power," and AI will be positioned as an essential national strategy.

To strengthen development capabilities, Japan will include ensuring top talents both domestically and internationally, developing next-generation supercomputers, and R&D of high-performance semiconductors. Relevant ministries and agencies will hold meetings within the month to propose the outline of this plan.

With China and the US competing for technological supremacy and international development competition intensifying, AI technology is directly linked to national strength in economic and security aspects.

The basic plan outline proposes improving the treatment and living environment of engineers and researchers to attract AI development talents. To integrate advanced knowledge, cooperation with universities, research institutions, and private enterprises in Japan and abroad will also be promoted.

As AI development requires a lot of computing power, Japan will promote the development of "Fugaku NEXT," which will be the next generation of the RIKEN supercomputer "Fugaku."
