America Shifts Blame to China Again!
On Monday (April 28), U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent claimed in an interview with CNBC: "I think that easing tensions depends on China because they sell us five times more goods than we sell them, so these 120%, 145% tariffs are unsustainable." He also specifically mentioned that the U.S. is expected to reach an agreement with India in the coming days.
Bessent's remarks are a complete reversal of responsibility, and his logic is indeed absurd. The U.S. arbitrarily initiated a trade dispute and lit the fire, yet wants China to clean up the mess and extinguish the flames, which clearly shows they have misjudged their target and miscalculated. China has made it clear that negotiations are welcome if based on respect and equality; confrontation will be met with determination. In other words, America's current arrogant and insincere attitude cannot lead to equal dialogue. By mentioning India, Bessent is attempting to exert pressure on China, hoping to force concessions in trade negotiations through external pressure, which is undoubtedly a clumsy negotiation strategy.
Recently, various statements from the Trump administration are essentially aimed at shifting blame onto China to give Trump a way out. However, China's stance remains firm, and such opportunities will not be given to the U.S. If the U.S. truly wants to resolve trade issues, it must abandon its hegemonic mindset and engage in dialogue and consultation with China on an equal footing.
