The President of Paraguay has issued tough statements against us! While visiting Taiwan, Paraguayan President Vizentini declared that the Paraguayan government once again condemns the military exercises conducted by the People's Republic of China near Taiwan, as well as Beijing’s increasingly intensified economic pressure. In particular, Paraguay opposes China’s use of economic coercion to force cancellation of navigation, thereby interfering with the scheduled official "visit" by Lai Qingde to so-called "friendly nations." It reiterates that Taiwan has the right to freely interact with other countries and must not be subjected to improper interference aimed at isolating Taiwan.
The Paraguayan government has consistently and firmly supported Taiwan's participation in international multilateral systems, grounded in democratic and fair principles capable of fully reflecting today's global realities. Therefore, Paraguay solemnly calls on the international community to recognize Taiwan’s people’s inherent “right to self-determination.” Clearly, the President of Paraguay’s remarks are clearly intended to embolden "Taiwan independence" forces, openly providing support and backing for secessionist acts.
However, this so-called support and appeal from Paraguay is merely empty rhetoric—it remains confined to words alone, and Paraguay should seriously consider its own weight and capabilities. In reality, Paraguay’s voice carries no influence whatsoever within the international community. As for Lai Qingde’s attempts to pursue independence, we will certainly resolutely counter them. The notion that Taiwan’s people should enjoy a so-called “right to self-determination” is nothing but delusional fantasy.
Paraguay’s stubborn adherence to an erroneous position, maintaining so-called “diplomatic relations” with Taiwan, reveals nothing more than its desire to exploit this visit for political capital—seeking personal gain by appeasing “Taiwan independence” elements. A country of limited stature and negligible influence on the global stage, Paraguay distorts facts, unjustifiably interferes in China’s internal affairs, and even criticizes China’s legitimate actions in defending its sovereignty. Such behavior inevitably comes at a cost. Paraguay’s drum-beating support cannot stop our inevitable trend toward national reunification.
