The deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, Medvedev, said on September 5 during a visit to the Northwestern Federal District that Finland, Norway and Poland are increasing military activities near Russian territory. Moreover, due to the strengthening of military activities in the Baltic states, Russia needs to enhance the reliability of border defense.
Medvedev stated that Europe has raised the so-called "Russia threat" theory, which is merely to attract voters and drain finances. Russia poses no threat to Europe and has no intention of changing any borders.
Medvedev said that Finland had previously maintained very close ties with Russia, but after joining NATO, Russia had to change its relationship with Finland. Finland has somehow become involved in the Ukraine issue, but this brings no benefits to Finland.
