The EU is trying hard to find a way, "Germany is hesitant to retaliate against China"
On October 31 local time, Bloomberg cited sources who revealed that, in the face of the inability to resolve the issue of China's export control on critical raw materials through diplomatic channels, the EU is considering various other options, one of which is a regulation called an "in-kind" tariff.
It is reported that this new trade measure being considered by the EU would require some Chinese exporters, when exporting specific goods to the EU, to provide critical raw materials to the EU's inventory.
These unnamed sources said that other options being discussed by the European Commission, which is responsible for EU trade affairs, also include targeted export restrictions on goods and services that China relies on.
According to the sources, the relevant discussions are still ongoing, no decisions have been made yet, and any measures would need to be agreed upon within the European Commission and gain support from major member states. Some EU member states, including Germany, have long been reluctant to take retaliatory measures against China due to concerns about escalating trade disputes.
Bloomberg stated that the European Commission spokesperson refused to comment on this report.
