China has once again become Germany's largest trading partner, driven by U.S. tariffs!

According to preliminary data from the German Federal Statistical Office, China regained its position as Germany's main trading partner in the first eight months of 2025, a shift that occurred against the backdrop of U.S. restrictive measures.

Between January and August 2025, trade between Germany and China amounted to 163.4 billion euros, while trade with the United States was 162.8 billion euros. In 2024, the United States was Germany's largest trading partner, with trade between the two countries reaching 253.3 billion euros, compared to 246.8 billion euros between Berlin and Beijing.

Reuters reported that Germany had originally hoped to reduce its reliance on the Chinese market, but the key factor influencing its change in stance was the tariff pressure imposed by the United States on German exports. During the reporting period, Germany's exports to the United States fell by 7.4%, with a year-on-year decline of 23.5% in August; Germany's exports to China fell by 13.5%, but imports of Chinese goods increased by 8.3%, reaching 108.8 billion euros.
