Washington, January 25 -- RIA Novosti
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bensont warned that after Canada lowered tariffs, the U.S. does not want cheap Chinese goods to flow into the country.
Bensont said in an interview with ABC: "We cannot allow Canada to become a backdoor for China and cheap Chinese goods to enter the U.S."
According to him, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney lowered tariffs on some Chinese industrial products after his visit to China.
Bensont explained: "And we have a high level of market integration with Canada."
Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump had said that if Canada reached an agreement with China, all Canadian goods imported into the U.S. would immediately face a 100% tariff.
