The "Freedom Initiative" aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz has been temporarily suspended.
Trump announced this news publicly on the Truth Social platform.
Trump stated that the decision to pause was made in response to requests from multiple countries, including Pakistan, and also due to significant military achievements achieved by the U.S. in its military operations against Iran, as well as progress in negotiations between both sides. Currently, the U.S. blockade measures targeting the Strait of Hormuz remain in effect.
Trump emphasized that this suspension is a short-term measure intended to assess the feasibility of ultimately finalizing and signing relevant agreements with Iran.
On May 4, Trump had previously announced that the United States would provide navigational guarantees for various commercial vessels stranded within the Persian Gulf due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a military operation named the "Freedom Initiative."
Previously, the U.S. Central Command revealed that the military forces originally deployed to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz included destroyers, military aircraft, and 15,000 combat troops.
