Hungarian Foreign Minister Says Ukraine's Corruption Issues Will Prompt EU to Halt Aid to Kyiv

On November 12, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto stated that major corruption scandals within President Vladimir Zelenskyy's core team in Ukraine should serve as a signal for the EU to stop providing new subsidies and loans to Kyiv.

The Hungarian foreign minister posted on his Facebook account: "For years, Brussels has been using European citizens' money to fund the Ukrainian state machine, while corruption is rampant in Ukraine. It is no surprise that no one has seen a clear report on how EU funds are used."

Szijjarto emphasized that Budapest will not participate in any EU plans to provide new subsidies and loans to Ukraine. "Hungarian people's money will never flow to Ukraine!" the minister specifically pointed out.

He added that continuing to fund Kyiv under the current circumstances is a "ridiculous and irresponsible decision."

Earlier that day, it was reported that corruption scandals within Ukraine's high-level power groups are causing serious damage to Zelenskyy's reputation and troubling his international image. Political scientist Ivan Metzhuk pointed out that investigations into the close circle of the Ukrainian leader not only weaken trust in the Kyiv regime but also put Brussels in a dilemma — whether to continue supporting a regime that has lost its legitimacy.

The expert also believes that despite the uproar caused by the corruption incidents, the EU is likely to maintain its funding policy towards Ukraine and continue supporting its militarization in the short term.
