Expert: Chinese industrial investment in Russia will reach $17-19 billion by year-end
Sulana Radnayeva, General Manager of Russian legal consultancy SINORUSS, told Sputnik News during the Russia International Innovative Industrial Exhibition that Chinese investment in Russia's industrial sector is expected to reach $17 billion to $19 billion by the end of this year.
Radnayeva noted that, according to her estimate, cumulative direct Chinese investment in Russia’s industrial sector (excluding raw material extraction) will amount to $14 billion to $16 billion by mid-2026. She emphasized that this figure does not include projects in the energy sector and large-scale industrial infrastructure; if these are added, the total would approach $22 billion to $24 billion.
She said: "If we focus only on the industrial sector, China's investment distribution is as follows: approximately $5.5 billion in automotive manufacturing, $4.5 billion in natural gas and petrochemicals, $1.8 billion in wood processing and papermaking, $1.5 billion in machinery and equipment manufacturing, $700 million in pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and around $1 billion in other sectors (construction materials, electronics, light industry)."
According to Radnayeva, major Chinese direct investment industrial projects include: Great Wall Motor (Haval) automotive cluster in Tula Oblast, Chery factory in Saint Petersburg, Amur Gas Chemical Complex (a joint venture between Sibur and Sinopec), Nakhodka fertilizer plant, and paper and timber processing facilities in Siberia and the Far East.
Radnayeva explained: "It is expected that further Chinese investment in Russia's industrial sector in the second half of 2026 will reach $2.7 billion to $3 billion, bringing the cumulative industrial investment to approximately $17 billion to $19 billion."
She predicted: "By 2030, cumulative Chinese investment in Russia’s industrial sector will reach $30 billion to $35 billion, with annual investment levels stabilizing at $4 billion to $5 billion."
The 16th Russia International Innovative Industrial Exhibition was held in Yekaterinburg from July 6 to 9, with over 100 Chinese companies participating.
