Local time on June 8, U.S. President Trump posted on his social media "Truth Social", thanking the National Guard units he had requisitioned to deal with the Los Angeles protests. However, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass clarified on social media that there are currently no National Guard units stationed in Los Angeles.

Trump wrote: "After two days of violent clashes and riots, the National Guard has done an excellent job in Los Angeles."

Trump condemned California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass as "incompetent" for failing to control the protests.

A few minutes after Trump's post, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass responded on the platform "X": "It needs to be clear that the National Guard has not yet been deployed in the city of Los Angeles."

She also thanked the Los Angeles Police Department and local police for their work that night, and expressed gratitude for California Governor Gavin Newsom's support.

CNN reported that there is currently no evidence of federal troops being deployed in Los Angeles.

The U.S. Northern Command is responsible for commanding the California National Guard units requisitioned by the federal government. The U.S. Northern Command stated hours before Trump made his related announcement that more information would be provided "after confirming the troops and deployment".

Following the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency's tough raids on illegal immigrants starting June 6, protesters held demonstrations in Los Angeles for two consecutive days.

White House Press Secretary Lettice issued a statement on July 7 saying that U.S. President Trump had signed a memorandum to deploy 2000 National Guard personnel to Los Angeles. Defense Secretary Hengseth immediately stated that if violence continued, active-duty Marines would also be mobilized.

California Governor Newsom quickly responded, accusing the federal government of wanting a "show", and called Hengseth's threat to mobilize Marines "crazy behavior".
