Trump will send 2,000 National Guard troops to California to respond to protests.
In response to two days of protests triggered by federal deportation operations, the Trump administration will dispatch 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles.
Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, stated that sending the National Guard was unnecessary. In a post on X, he said, "This move is deliberately inflammatory and will only escalate tensions."
The protests were sparked by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducting large-scale raids at multiple locations in Los Angeles, such as Home Depot. Many immigrant groups viewed this operation as "indiscriminate targeting," including children and regular registrants, which resonated emotionally.
It is estimated that there are nearly 2 million undocumented immigrants living in California.
