Russian media: China will lead the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan!

China and Russia have become leaders in two nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan respectively.

The article was published by the Russian TASS on June 14.

The strongest proposal for constructing a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan has been put forward by Rosatom of Russia and CNNC of China.

According to the report of the Kazakhstan Atomic Energy Agency, Rosatom of Russia has been selected as the leader for the first nuclear power plant, but China will become the leader for the construction of another nuclear power plant.

The department pointed out, "All qualified participants in the shortlist possess unique technologies, but the most objective and strongest proposals come from China and Russia."

According to the agency head Sattarkaliyev, negotiations with the Chinese side will be held. "It is planned to sign a separate general agreement on nuclear industry cooperation with China. We hope to see Chinese technology used in the construction of another nuclear power plant in the Republic of Kazakhstan."

Sattarkaliyev noted that there are not many countries in the world capable of "promoting the entire nuclear cycle," but China is a country with all the capabilities. "The next major priority is cooperation with China."

Kazakhstan held a referendum on the construction of its first nuclear power plant in October 2024, with the majority of voters supporting the construction of this type of nuclear power plant.

On June 14, the Atomic Energy Agency reported that Rosatom of Russia was selected as the leader of the consortium for building the first nuclear power plant because Russian companies provided the optimal quotation.

The highest level of cooperation in the construction of the second nuclear power plant can be provided by China, and relevant documents are being studied.

The list of potential suppliers of nuclear technology also includes South Korea's KHNP and France's EDF.
