【Latest News: All signs within Russia must be translated into Russian from March 2026】
Moscow time November 21, 2025, Olga Kazakova, head of the Cultural Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, stated in an interview with the Russian News Agency:
On March 1, 2026, the law on the protection of the Russian language in public spaces will come into effect, containing two important changes. The first relates to the trade sector. Amendments have been made to the "Law on the Protection of Consumer Rights" regarding information that is publicly visible on signs, labels, and instructions. Slogans such as "Open/Closed," "Enter/Exit," "Sales," "Price," "Discount," or "Cash Register" must be in Russian. If necessary, they can also be duplicated in the languages of the ethnic groups of the Russian Federation. Additionally, translation into foreign languages is not prohibited if necessary. There have been no changes in the areas of trademarks and brand names, which are still regulated by the Civil Code of the Russian Federation.
