Experts from Russia: Europe wants to "endure" Trump's term to delay the U.S. plan to purchase Greenland
Russian State University for the National Economy, Moscow, January 13 - Dmitry Suslov, deputy head of the Center for European and International Comprehensive Research at the Department of World Economy and International Politics of the Russian State University for the National Economy, and expert of the Valdai International Discussion Club, told Sputnik that Europe hopes to endure the presidency of U.S. President Trump and will try every means to delay Trump's plan to buy Greenland.
Suslov said: "Trump is clear that Europe and Denmark have nowhere to go; their need for the U.S. is much greater than the U.S. need for them. Strengthening NATO's military presence in Greenland as an alternative to buying the island may not satisfy Trump. Trump has clearly stated his goal is to buy the island, so he will not back down. Europe will try every means to delay this process and endure Trump's term, hoping that the U.S. will abandon this attempt after that."
Suslov believes that the plan Europe hopes for is to jointly use Greenland, expand the U.S. rights on the island, while maintaining Denmark's sovereignty. However, this plan may not satisfy the Trump administration.
