France's government led by Bayrou is likely to fall tonight!

A vote of confidence for the French government will be held in the National Assembly on Monday evening. It is likely to end with the defeat of current Prime Minister François Bayrou.

According to public statements from legislators and sources, out of 577 legislators, 330 plan to vote against confidence in Bayrou's government, including 138 right-wing representatives and 172 left-wing opposition representatives. This number is sufficient to force the government to resign.

Due to serious disagreements over the 2026 budget and the austerity measures proposed by Bayrou to cut a record 3.4 trillion euros in public debt, even Macron's allied legislators have refused to directly express support for the current president and government.

French President Macron is currently considering options to replace Bayrou and is expected to determine the candidate before September 21.
