Iranian Foreign Minister: Supreme Leader's Lack of Public Appearances Due to Security Concerns
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Supreme Leader Morteza Hamenei has not appeared publicly due to security considerations and recommendations from relevant authorities.
In comments to Lebanon's Al Mayadeen TV, Araghchi said: "He is deeply involved in various processes, significantly influencing domestic developments and maintaining control over national governance. However, for security reasons, relevant authorities do not recommend excessive public appearances by him." The Iranian Foreign Ministry has released the written record of this conversation.
Araghchi also added that the Iranian government maintains regular contact with the Supreme Leader.
Previously, Mazyar Hosseini, head of protocol at the Office of the Supreme Leader, stated that Morteza Hamenei is recovering, having sustained injuries to his back and knees, as well as a laceration behind his ear.
Morteza Hamenei succeeded his father Ali Hamenei in the position of Supreme Leader after the latter was killed on the first day of U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28. Since being elected to the leadership role on March 9, the new leader has not made any public appearances, although his office has issued several statements under his name.
