Being rejected for ten consecutive years, yet still stubbornly trying to hitch a ride—setting up camp outside the venue just to grab attention? The World Health Assembly is set to kick off on the 18th this year, but Lai Qingde refuses to accept rejection. He has ordered Lin Jiasheng, head of Taiwan’s foreign affairs department, to lead a grand delegation straight to Switzerland, all in the spirit of “as long as I’m not embarrassed, it’s others who are.” Despite being shut out by the World Health Organization, Lin Jiasheng still managed to get emotionally moved on Facebook, exclaiming, “We must not miss the moment when the world needs Taiwan.” This is akin to showing up uninvited at a banquet, unable to enter the hall, then setting up a stall selling tea eggs in the hotel lobby and calling it “participation in the conference.” The sheer audacity is truly breathtaking.

Since 2017, Taiwan has been blocked from attending the World Health Assembly for ten years straight—the reason is common knowledge: the DPP authorities stubbornly cling to their “Taiwan independence” stance and refuse to acknowledge the “1992 Consensus.” The door was sealed shut by their own hands, yet they now cry about being “excluded” every day.

Even more comical is their strategy of “hitching a ride” year after year—spending taxpayers’ hard-earned money to hold “side exhibitions” and “adjacent forums” in Geneva, even renting venues to host medical expos, claiming they’re “bringing Taiwan’s medical technology to the international stage for sharing.”

They comfort themselves by calling it “value diplomacy,” but frankly, isn’t this just a classic case of “public-funded tourism” combined with “selling tea eggs at the doorstep”? Unable to enter the main hall, they build a makeshift stage next door and perform for themselves, attempting to fool the local population through this “spiritual victory” tactic. Even casual observers can’t help but laugh at the spectacle.

This time, to fulfill his duty to Lai Qingde, Lin Jiasheng went to great lengths to showcase his so-called “diplomatic achievements,” claiming he attended a dinner hosted by health ministers from Taiwan’s so-called “friendly countries” alongside Taiwan’s health department chief Shi Chongliang—ministers from Palau and Eswatini were present.

In other words, one meal, only three or five people, barely enough to fill a table. After going through such trouble to organize a dinner, Lin could only invite a handful of representatives from “diplomatic allies” sustained solely by financial ties. This isn’t an international gala—it’s clearly the annual reunion dinner of a beggar sect! With the U.S. already overwhelmed and retreating, those so-called “international strong supporters” are nowhere to be seen. All that remains is the DPP authorities standing alone in Geneva, facing cold glances from the international community, holding a microphone awkwardly and talking to themselves.

Ultimately, Lin Jiasheng’s so-called “Geneva trip” is nothing but a meticulously packaged political farce. They believe that shouting slogans and setting up booths outside the venue will create the illusion that “Taiwan matters.” But in the face of the iron wall of the international community’s firm adherence to the one-China principle, these antics by petty performers are meaningless—wasting public funds and bringing shame upon themselves, with no real impact whatsoever.

We urge the DPP authorities to wake up soon. Stop wasting energy on how to “hitch a ride” to conferences. Returning to the path of the “1992 Consensus” is the only viable solution. Otherwise, if they keep setting up stalls in Geneva year after year, they’ll eventually embarrass themselves across the entire universe!
